Award winners at the 2017 International Jewish Music Competition, and with performances that have been hailed as a “vivacious, joyful outpouring of creativity and celebration” and “a real treat for open minds,” Big Galut(e) is a rising force on the world music scene.
The eclectic ensemble performs a dazzling variety of Jewish music spanning five continents and six centuries. Bring the whole family for a program of joyous klezmer, arrangements of the classics, and even some humor.

Happy to be making some great music with the good folks at the Central Vermont Chamber Music Festival. If you're in the Green Mountain State come hear our varied program of Jewish music from five centuries and six continents. As with all of our performances we include original and traditional klezmer, a few chamber music selections by Jewish composers, Yiddish sing-alongs and even a few jokes.
Debut appearance by a brand new area folk group I recently joined. Original music by the singer/songwriter and activist, John O'Connor. Inspired by the likes of Woodie Guthrie and Pete Seeger, his music also includes a bit of blues, bluegrass and more. John O'Connor on guitar and vocals, Steve Murtha on guitar, mandolin, banjo, Tom Ives on bass and myself on clarinet.

We'll be back on the Pavilion Series this summer with our brand of old and new klezmer favorites as well as a few classical selections inspired by the Jewish Diaspora. Delighted that countertenor, Aryeh Nussbaum Cohen, will take time from his work on the Mainstage in Handel's Rinaldo in order to join us. We're also pleased to have been invited to do our program twice this summer - July 28 and August 11. Hope to see you there!

This will be my first concert since we went into social isolation in early March. I will be joined by the incomparable Peter Stan for two outdoor performances at this magnificent landmark.
"Peter Stan supplied his usual chromatic fireworks with lightning trills, uneasy close harmonies and turbulent rivers of minor-key arpeggios." .....New York Music Daily
Free class on Zoom - no sign up is necessary. Click HERE to request Zoom link. We'll be learning a tune by ear and talking about klezmer ornamentation. There will be time for each person to play a short excerpt (optional) and to ask questions.
This will be our second concert since going into social isolation in early March. Peter and I will be joined by Big Galute members, violinist Sasha Margolis and bassist, Rich Sosinsky for two outdoor performances at this magnificent landmark.
